When specifying bottles, the two most common plastics are PET and HDPE.

PET offers up to 95% clarity and good pressure resistance, making it the default for cosmetics, serums and premium skincare. It is also widely recyclable.

HDPE resists strong acids and alkalis, so it is the right choice for cleaning agents, detergents and some automotive fluids. It is opaque and slightly flexible.

For most skincare brands, start with PET. For household or industrial formulas, choose HDPE. Both are recyclable; PCR (GRS-certified) versions are available if you need recycled content.
